A CFL volunteer had the opportunity to attend a UK Partner Summit between 23rd /24th September, 2013. The Summit was entitled ‘Building capacity, Stimulating Change’. The event took place in Bristol and covered a number of issues around developing a network which focussed on University and community partnership. There were a number of key speakers at this event. One of the key note and inspirational speakers was Ann-Gel Palermo who is the chair of Harlem Community & Academic partnership. Dr Palermo had travelled all the way from America and spoke about the work she had been involved in the US. This was a fantastic summit as it allowed participants to share ideas and raise questions around developing University and community partnerships across the UK. There were also a number of workshops hosted at this event which gave delegates a further insight into how to develop partnerships and approach universities. CFL are interested in exploring the idea of working with universities to help promote and enhance social change particularly in socially and economically deprived communities.
